T20 World Cup co-hosts USA stunned Pakistan with a dramatic victory in a super over after both sides finished on 159. Aaron Jones was the hero, hitting an unbeaten 36 in the chase, before striking 11 in the one-over decider to set a target of 19.
Saurabh Netravalkar then dismissed Iftikhar Ahmed and conceded 13 to give USA their second victory of the tournament and provide a significant boost to their chances of advancing to the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
A knock of 50 from 38 balls by the USA’s captain and wicketkeeper, Monank Patel, set the tone in their chase of 160, before Nitish Kumar hit a last-ball four off Haris Rauf to force the game into a super over. Earlier left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige had taken three for 30 in Pakistan’s innings, accounting for Usman Khan, Shadab Khan and Azam Khan.
