A new law to exonerate Post Office victims – podcast | News

The prosecutions brought by the Post Office against post office operators based on evidence gleaned from a faulty computer system has been called the biggest miscarriage of justice in the British legal system. But it took a primetime TV drama to really catch the imagination of the public – and force politicians finally to take the issue seriously.

For Janet Skinner it has been a vindication of her fight for justice that has taken years. She lost her home when the Post Office brought a prosecution against her that resulted in a prison sentence. Her conviction was later quashed and, like hundreds of others, she now faces a wait for full compensation.

Political editor Pippa Crerar tells Nosheen Iqbal that the issue – fuelled by public outrage over the ITV drama – has forced the government to act.
