Manchester City and Newcastle United got the top flight ball rolling in today’s lunchtime kick-off between the Premier League’s two state-owned clubs. It’s half-time at the Etihad Stadium, where Manchester City have dominated their visitors for the opening 45 minutes and lead courtesy of a fine solo goal from the in-form Phil Foden. Should City hold on to their lead, they’ll close the gap between themselves and Arsenal to two points, having played one game more.

Another weekend, another round of Premier League fixtures and table-toppers Arsenal have what looks, on paper at least, a relatively straightforward home fixture against struggling Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.
They’ll kick-off in North London shortly after the final whistle has been blown on second-placed Manchester City’s clash with Newcastle United at the Etihad, while there are four other top flight match slated to take place before Southampton’s 5.30pm (GMT) battle against Leicester City later this afternoon. Bottom of the table and four points from safety, Southampton are in dire need of a win over their fellow strugglers.
